Murray has a wealth of experience in the not-for-profit sector with a strong focus on housing and support services in regional areas. Prior to working with QShelter, Murray was leading a Crisis Youth Service for a Tier Three organisation in regional Queensland and remains a respected spokesperson for his community. As the portfolio manager of Crisis Accommodation and Specialist Housing Services Murray also gained essential skills in housing and homelessness, emergency relief, crisis management, domestic and family violence, and public relations.
As a proud Barkanji man from Central West New South Wales, Murray has strong ties to his local community and the ‘Gubbi Gubbi Kabi Kabi people’ and welcomes the opportunity to connect with all communities. Through advocacy and connection Murray continues to be actively involved in the development and sustainability of his regions cultural identity. ‘I have close ties to the Stolen Generation and therefore understand how the loss of connection to family, identity, land, language and culture underpins much of the grief and trauma that affects many First Nations people across Australia’.
