The Role

As a Crisis Support Worker, you will provide end-to-end support to clients accessing the Toowoomba Homelessness Support Service.

This role delivers a holistic and person-centred response to individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, providing support throughout all stages of the client journey, from initial intake and assessment through to referral pathways and exit planning.

Working within a collaborative service model, you will greet and engage clients, identify immediate needs, complete assessments using the Queensland Homelessness Information Platform (QHIP), and provide high-quality advice, referrals, advocacy, and interim case management support. The role also involves working closely with internal and external stakeholders to connect clients with appropriate accommodation, community services, and ongoing support options.

A key focus of the position is supporting people experiencing complex needs to access safe, stable, and affordable housing, while empowering them to overcome barriers contributing to homelessness or housing instability.

We currently have two casual positions available, both based in Toowoomba.

 

To be successful in the role, you will meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum Certificate III in Community Services or related field (Mandatory)
  • Hold a current Blue Card (Mandatory)
  • Knowledge of and ability to work within relevant legislation and guidelines relating to the delivery of specialist homelessness services
  • Previous experience as a Support Worker or equivalent within the homelessness support sector or related field
  • Ability to deliver advocacy on behalf of clients and always ensure confidentiality of client information
  • Ability to work unsupervised at times as well as an effective team member
  • Contribute positively within a team environment
  • Demonstrate a friendly, positive attitude, with a willingness to learn
  • Effective communication and time management skills
  • Demonstrate genuine respect for all people regardless of their situation
  • Understanding of risk management principles including current WHS legislation and regulations
  • Understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland and an ability to work in accordance with policies and procedures to promote the values and mission of the Society
