Team Leader – Kunparra Youth Shelter

Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Team Leader for Kunparra Mount Isa Youth Shelter will oversee the full operations to making sure young adults (16-25yrs) are provided with a culturally safe environment and supporting staff in the provision of appropriate programs, activities and regular contact through case management internally and with other partner agencies in the community.

To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position possess a high degree of skills, experience and knowledge working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities. Clearly able to evidence this through their extensive work history and or lived experience working within community-controlled setting, and specifically within the youth housing sector and or other social justice setting.

ABOUT KUNPARRA YOUTH SHELTER

Kunparra Youth Shelter is a 10-bed residential facility that can accommodate 6 young males and 4 young females, with a 24/7 two-worker model. Kunparra is a Kalkadoon Nation word, meaning “The Shield”, and was aptly named by a senior Kalkadoon Elder, as it depicts protecting vulnerable young adults in their times of need.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

You will be a highly respected and motivated professional within the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community. You will have the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across multi-disciplines to support children, young people and their families and represent the Corporation is various forums and meetings.

You will demonstrate a breadth and depth of professional skills and knowledge in managing staff and resources within the community services sector and exellent knowledge of the issues affecting children and young people in contact with the child protection and youth justice system.

The occupant of this position will hold a minimum certificate iv and or advance diploma in community services (or a related discipline), and/or have experience in providing case management support and advocacy with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and/or communities.
