The second Mackay Covid Learning Exchange was held this afternoon and some interesting information has been shared with our colleagues.

Orange Sky

  • Mackay service is due to start next week!! From 21/05/2020, a pod will be located in Sarina, another pod will be located at Caneland’s Shopping Centre and the van site is currently being reviewed. Daniel from Orange Sky met with us online to share this great news. The pods are repurposed shipping containers.
  • Each location has several washing machines and dryers for free use.

  • Due to COVID-19, Orange Sky are working hard to get shifts back up and running under new health and safety procedures.

Emergency Relief Program delivers emergency relief in the form of food or fuel vouchers and education in the following areas:

  • Basic budgeting
  • Information about ways to build skills to avoid or resolve financial difficulties
  • Strengthening your capacity to manage your money
  • Understanding concession options
  • How to read your bills
  • Community No-Interest Loans
  • How to save for future expenses
  • Cooking on a budget
  • Referral to a financial counsellor and other support services.

Emergency Relief is by appointment only on Tuesday and Thursday mornings

(Please call Tuesday between 8.30am – 9.00am for a Tuesday appointment, and call Thursday between 8.30am – 9.00am for a Thursday appointment)

RSDC is running the next workshop in our Community Leadership series: Cultural Understanding

This workshop will be online in 2 parts  (Using TEAMS)

Part 1 – “Living under the Act” on Tuesday 26 May 2020 from 10 am-11 am (DATSIP)

Part 2  – Diversity in our region on Tuesday 26 May 2020 from 12:30 pm to 2 pm (Neighbourhood Hub)

Minister for Child Safety  has announced additional one off  funding over the next 6 months to support specialist Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Services to respond to additional demand to assist with keeping women and children safe. Funding will become available once contracts are finalised with service providers. Will provide further information at future meetings.
