My Home, My Place

Abstract

The housing needs of older people living in rural areas are often not well understood with limited research and data available nationally. To better understand the specific needs of those living and ageing in small communities, Horizon Housing initiated a study in 2017 and has recently launched My Home, My Place – Housing Needs of Older People Living in a Rural Community.

This report offers an insight into the aspirations, barriers and challenges older people told us they are confronted with and details the findings with recommendations to inform planners, policy makers and service providers nationally on the distinct needs of older people living outside a metropolitan location
