The non-profit sector, also known as the community sector, in Australia encompasses a wide range of social institutions; most of which are private. These include sports clubs, day care centres, environmental groups, job-training centres, counselling agencies, hospitals, clinics, community centres, camp grounds and many more.
Currently, there are approximately 177,000 non-profit organisations in Australia. They are well known to improve the quality of life through groups, celebrations and events while bringing people from all cultures and ethnicities together. Nearly all non-profits rely on funding in the form of grants, donations and sponsorship from the government or general public to remain active.
