The Everybody’s Home campaign is assessing the alignment of policy offerings of parties and candidates with an online commitment tracker. It looks at the following measures:
The role of Government
In recent years, Government policies and language have ceded control of housing to the market. A key test of policy measures is whether it means that the Government is taking responsibility for ensuring Australians are housed.
The scale of investment Â
Policies may use lofty language and parties might characterise their offerings as ambitious, but the campaign will consider the scale of investment into housing.
A systemic response
Housing programs have tended to target small groups of people, and social housing has been treated as a safety net rather than a tool to drive affordability across the housing market for all Australians. The campaign will consider whether the policy will make a difference to a critical mass of people.
