Vanessa Beenders
Vanessa is Executive General Manager, Public Policy & Professionalism at the Actuaries Institute.
In this role she leads the Institute’s thought leadership program, working closely with actuaries across a range of industries to deliver insights across key societal issues. She is also responsible for delivery of Institute support to its Practice Committees, of technical and professional support to its members thereby ensuring high-quality professional standards, and the Institute’s year-round events program.
Before joining the Institute, Vanessa worked across government, financial services and education in both public and private sectors. This included as an economist in the Commonwealth Department of Treasury and an adviser in the Federal Treasurer’s office. At Commonwealth Bank of Australia, she held various adviser roles in corporate strategy, equities research and government relations.
Vanessa also qualified and worked as a teacher. She has a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) and Bachelor of Education.
Laura Dixie
Laura is an experienced actuary and a director at Taylor Fry consulting.
She works in Taylor Fry’s Government practice using quantitative analysis applied to a range of datasets to understand how people interact with services in the health, education, and social sectors. This often means using linked datasets and statistical analysis to highlight people’s service pathways or to evaluate outcomes across all wellbeing domains.
By assisting in tailoring initiatives, understanding outcomes and the costs associated with poor outcomes her work aims to supports government in making sustainable decisions that benefit community.
