Australia’s housing crisis characterized by affordability challenges, rental market instability, homelessness, and an acute shortage of affordable housing demands urgent and strategic intervention. Existing research highlights a sustained decline in affordability over the past three decades, exacerbated by surging property prices, stagnant wage growth, and policy structures that prioritize market-driven investment over social housing.
This study critically examines the structural, policy, and market-related factors contributing to the crisis, with a particular focus on Community Housing Organizations to deliver housing solutions. By integrating Institutional, Affordability, and Community Development Theories, this research provides a holistic analysis of Australia’s social and affordable housing.
