In 2024, Q Shelter delivered its inaugural Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Impact Report. While not regulated in the Not for Profit sector, Q Shelter decided to embark on an ESG journey in order to better evaluate its impact on the housing and homelessness sector and understand how their work benefits Queensland’s communities.
Developing an ESG framework allowed Q Shelter to holistically consider its impact on the sector and the community, as well as assess its impact as an organisation. Since the release of Q Shelter’s ESG Impact Report in January 2025, many organisations have enquired about the process used. While Q Shelter acknowledges that all ESG impact reports will be specific to the organisation completing the reporting, understanding how others approach the exercise can often provide good insights into ways forward.
With the above in mind, this document serves as an overall guide to how Q Shelter developed an ESG framework and impact report, and some considerations that might be useful for organisations contemplating the development of their own ESG report.
