We are looking for an engaging and compassionate Support Worker to join our team in Toowoomba. In this frontline role, you will support young people within a residential care setting who may have experienced trauma, instability, and significant life challenges.
What you’ll be doing:
- Creating a safe, stable and supportive environment for young residents.
- Building meaningful connections with young people through positive role modelling and respectful relationships.
- Providing day-to-day support, including supervision, meal preparation, household duties and assistance with personal development and life skills.
- Contributing to individual case plans and working collaboratively with your team to support the unique needs of each resident.
- Ensuring accurate and timely documentation, including case notes and reporting.
- Supporting young people’s access to education, health, and recreational activities.
- Navigating complex behaviours with empathy, professionalism and calmness under pressure.
Essential
- Tertiary qualification or working towards tertiary qualifications in the human services field (Certificate IV level or higher).
- Highly developed communication skills (listening, verbal and written), including the ability to establish rapport and maintain a positive relationship with clients and other service providers.
Other Requirements
- Hold a current ‘C’ class open driver license.
- Must hold a Blue Card issued by the Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney-General
- Must hold, or be eligible to apply for, a Suitability Check issued by the Queensland Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services.
- This position will require work outside business hours and/or across a 24/7 roster, which may include day shifts, sleepover shifts, weekend shifts and public holidays to best support the individual program and client needs.
Desirable
- Experience recording case notes within a client management system.
- Demonstrated ability to provide culturally secure work practices when working with Aboriginal people and with people of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds.
