About the role:
We are seeking multiple Support Workers to join the Reverend Charles Harris Diversionary Centre (RCHDC).
RCHDC provides a safe, short-term alternative to police custody for individuals affected by public intoxication and related behaviours. The service offers overnight supervised care in a culturally safe, non-judgmental environment.
This is a hands-on role suited to individuals who are calm under pressure, respectful, and committed to supporting vulnerable people in a structured environment.
What you will be doing:
• Supporting and supervising clients in a safe and respectful manner
• Building professional relationships while maintaining clear boundaries
• Monitoring client wellbeing and completing required documentation
• Assisting with transport of clients where required
• Supporting clients to understand their rights and responsibilities
• Maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment (including cleaning and laundry duties)
What we’re looking for:
• Experience working with vulnerable clients
• Experience in working with Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander people or communities
• Understanding of the impacts of homelessness, alcohol dependency, social disadvantage
• Ability to work collaboratively with other services to ensure positive outcome for clients
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
• Ability to follow procedures and complete accurate documentation
• Sound judgement and ability to prioritise tasks in a fast-paced environment
Mandatory Requirements:
• Current C class Driver’s Licence
• Current (or ability to obtain) First Aid and CPR certification
• Current (or ability to obtain) QLD Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
• National Police Check (Australian Federal Police
Please note this is a shift-based role, including overnight, weekend and public holiday work.
